Retrospective 1977 MKII 3-Way Stand Speaker Walnut Cover Grey

SIMPLE ELEGANCE

Uncompromisingly retro

The extraordinary loudspeakers of the Retrospective series are a statement for uncompromising, authentic design made in Berlin. Inspired by the aesthetics of the '70s, classic and innovative details meet at the highest level and blend into a timeless whole.

With the Retrospective MKII, NUMAN's retro loudspeaker series goes to the next level. The mechanical design has been technically optimised and the acoustics have been fine-tuned. The warm and dynamic sound image has remained intact and the high-frequency portion has been refined with sensitivity. The new characteristics give the box more richness in detail and transparency. In addition, customer-oriented personalisation was also ensured. Three housing colours can be freely combined with matching covers. Just the way you like it and how it fits best.

CONVINCING INTERIOR

Dynamic, self-assured and powerful-sounding

The equally subtle and simple retro look of the NUMAN Retrospective 1977 MKII makes the hearts of design lovers beat faster. The technology inside the boxes convinces audiophile music lovers. The speakers of the Retrospective series are not adjusted to be completely neutral. Rather, their sound is warm, dynamic and gives a breath of fresh air to joyfully play music from every style.

The NUMAN Retrospective 1977 MKII is a three-way standing speaker in the typical look of the 1907s. The components and the sound characteristics are highly advanced. Thanks to the 20cm (8") woofers, 10cm (4") midrange speakers and a high-frequency tweeter with built-in sound guide, the speakers offer a powerful and warm sound that breathes life into every musical genre. The focus is on a high-quality 3-way frequency range, which splits the audio signal and delivers a precise and extremely detailed sound.

The NUMAN Retrospective speakers are typical 4 ohm speakers that work on almost any HiFi amplifier without damaging it - this also applies to most older amplifiers and receivers from the seventies and eighties.

With the NUMAN Retrospective 1977 MKII, you may choose the colour of the matching covers in a retro look. Due to the non-positive connection, the covers are easy to install and remove. The inner edges have been coated with a protective PU varnish to prevent scratches and damage.

The Retrospective 1977 MKII stand-alone speakers provide a space-encompassing and impressive listening experience that will not let you go.

Kein Wunder das billigste vom billigen 15W ja ne is klar...also neue 200W Hochtöner eingebaut. Also gut funktionierender Billigschrott.

The sound is good and also full... but the tweeters were through immediately. No wonder the cheapest of the cheap 15W yes ne is clear ... so new 200W tweeters installed. Furthermore, the resistance gen 0 decreases under load, so that my amplifier (Sony Taf 800es) turned off. Hasn't done that with the Wharfedale boxes in 30 years. So I put a 4ohm 120W static load resistor in front of it...all is good now. So good working cheap junk.

On the one hand there are only white, black or gray boxes - these convince with a beautiful wooden surface. The sound, the structure, the connections - everything convinced me. Truly the best boxes I've ever owned. They are definitely in the lower middle range in terms of price and technology - but they are really perfect for the money. There may be better and more expensive boxes - but I'm really mega happy as a "normal user" with turntables. In addition to the really balanced sound, they are also perfect furnishings. They are really big, but the wood paneling adds a perfect touch of ambience to the apartment.

High-quality entry-level speakers with great sound, a sensation for this price. The best alternative to expensive branded speakers with the same good sound. Boxes with a great sound do not have to be really expensive, which these boxes prove very well. You can be more than satisfied with this sound, and I've heard much more expensive boxes, and I know what I'm talking about. In an ingenious room (studio-like insulation) in an expensive hi-fi shop, every box sounds very different than at home anyway. But these ingenious loudspeakers would also be able to prove themselves there.

Wirklich gut gelungen. Fazit: siehe Einleitung… Testequipment Amplifier: DENON PMA 1080R und DENON DRA-700AE CD Player: DENON DCD 735 und ONKYO BD-SP353-S

A conclusion belongs at the end of an audio sample - for those who are not interested in this test, I'll write it right at the beginning: With high-quality starting material and careful installation conditions in rooms that are not too large, the NUMAN Retrospective 1977 MKII do a decent job. If the player and amplifier still bring their share of good sound characteristics with them, then purchasing these LS (loudspeakers) is absolutely not a mistake. Installation details The installation location is extremely important for the NUMANs. If you have the opportunity, you should definitely try out several positions of the LS. It is always amazing how differences in sound result from this alone. Calculate a distance of approx. 40 cm to the back wall. You should definitely avoid setting up the LS in the corners of a room, as this causes the bass to boom in frequency. Then set up the stereo sound triangle (there should be an equiangular triangle between the speakers and the listening position). Bring the beam angle of the LS in the direction of the listening position and finally place the floor-standing speakers on spikes to ensure decoupling from the floor (stone tiles in my case). Equipment I connected the LS with speaker cable of 2.5 mm². Length 4 meters each. A DENON PMA-1080R serves as an amplifier, the player is a DENON DCD-735. "Source Direct" was set on the amplifier, i.e. bypassing the sound settings for a direct sound image. Warm-up time I treated the NUMAN Retrospective 1977 MKII to a warm-up time of around 12 hours. Test persons Three family members agreed to this hearing test, the youngest 22, the oldest 58 years. Test duration: A good 3 hours. Listening test in detail Edvard Grieg with "Peer Gynt" under the Deutsche Grammophon label, performed by the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra conducted by Neeme Järvi. The LS brought the romance of "Dawn" to the ear in a very sensitive and detailed way, "In the Hall of the Mountain King" the low tones came across cleanly and powerfully. For one it was almost a bit much, for the other it must sound exactly like that. With "Solveig's Song" everyone agreed that they had seldom heard the vocals so clearly structured. With Charles Dutoit and the Orchester Symphonique de Montreal, under the label DECCA, the “Light Cavalry”, which Franz von Suppè composed in 1866, finally trots on. The clarity of the wind instruments is impressive here, and the tweeters and woofers cope just as well with the complexity of the entire orchestra. Nothing blurs and the LS don't afford any noticeable impurity for the test ears. When Gary Numan's "My Name Is Ruin" from his album "Savage" sounds from the LS, an electronic bass foundation spreads out in the listening room, which impresses us powerfully. It is amazing how calmly the highly dynamic sound is washed cleanly into the room by the LS. It's also great that Gary Numan's voice always stays in front of the soundscape. The youngest listener couldn't stop grinning joyfully when the bass foundation sounded deep and clean. "How much did the LS cost?" Doesn't matter here... Anyone who still wants a subwoofer here is probably more of a jackhammer junkie. ;-) Exception Drummer Billy Cobham and his snare and drum escapades on "Stratus" are already a legend (1973, Warner Music label), but still a glaring challenge for every LS. Despite Cobham's speed, you can hear every single hit on the drums and splash cymbals, even the tempered light "clicks" of the batons when they touch each other are well reproduced. When the penetrating bass foundation sets in and the LS heaves it into the room without booming effects, it's really moving. If you want to know what else is going on, he plays "Red Baron" with increased volume and sends the loose room decoration on the move. :-) The NUMAN's do not weaken in any of the still tolerable test volumes. We strike softer, finer tones with Silje Nergaard and her album "A Thousand True Stories". The song of the same name lives through Sijle's youthful voice and the string arrangements. Here, spatial sound images arise in our mind's eye, brought about by a broad and deep interpretation, as well as the careful separation of the voice from the instrumentation. The bass always remains traceable, while the strings go about their job in a cleanly presented manner. Silje Nergaard's voice dances pleasantly in front of it at all times. Finally, the Rocket Scientists with their double album “Revolution Road” bring us Progressive Rock. And here the overall "warm vote" of the NUMAN Retrospective 1977 MKII is very positive. The synth and guitar escapades are never annoying and yet easy to follow. The use of the synthesizer, which not only wanders from left to right, but also traces an ascending line from bottom left to top right, is particularly noticeable in the instrumental piece “Ptolemy”. The title "Sky Is Falling" also sounds enthusiastically through the LS, although the bass and toms mix somewhat diffusely here in the opening sequence. Finally we listen to Kate Bush with her interesting song "50 Words For Snow", really not an easy mix of sounds. The LS resolve the dull midrange/bass sound amazingly well, so that the "snow words" of the male speaking voice can all be understood. We hoped for that, but didn't necessarily expect it. The drums/percussion also come into their own. Really well done. Productions that didn't work at all for us with the NUMAN Retrospective 1977 MKII: Santiano's CD "Mit den Tides", the title "Gott muss ein Seemann sein" and "Of Monsters and Men" with the radio hit "Little Talks" . There was a lack of sound depth and breadth, treble and bass can't really free themselves from the midrange swamp. The NUMAN's obviously found nothing usable. Especially with the Santiano CD everything seems to be packed like cotton. It all has more of a party sound than sound character. Conclusion: see introduction... Umwerfend . . . mfG.

NUMAN Retrospective 1977 MKII (3-way floorstanding speaker, bass reflex, 4Ω, 120/200W) As a staunch music lover and cinema fan, I recently fulfilled my dream of real speakers: my previous two stereo shelf speakers, CANTON Plus XXL.2 I replaced it with 2 perfect floorstanding speakers from NUMAN. Overall, I run a 5.1 box system on a Yamaha AV Receiver RX-V667. An active Canton AS-22 subwoofer provides the necessary bass foundation. Without the sub, a warm, soft foundation was previously unthinkable. In view of the impressive size (VOLUME) and the 2 20cm woofers in the NUMAN floor-standing speakers, I initially had doubts as to whether the Yamaha with its 140W output power (at 4Ω) could supply enough power. After the first sound tests with various sound sources from youtube and CD, I can hardly put my enthusiasm into this text. But the biggest surprise I got was hearing the movie (Bluray, DTS) "Tron LEGACY"! Anyone who knows the film will know what I mean. Compared to my old Canton PlusXXL.2, the NUMAN are: - more neutral - more pleasant - much deeper, cleaner bass - more airy and, they are not even properly broken in... ;-)) Addendum: I now have the AV receiver replaced by a Yamaha RX-A 2080. What can I say - the (better) amplifier determines what the speakers can do. The RX-A 2080 (of course) plays in an exclusive class. Overall, I now have a 7.1.2 sound system with Dolby Atmos Enabled speakers (mounted on the front LS). stunning . . . Kind regards.

Preis-Leistung unschlagbar! Echt spitze was numan hier geliefert hat.

Value for money unbeatable! Really great what numan has delivered here. Large, solid, high-quality, well-made floor-standing speakers with a pleasant sound at a "small" price. Even at room volume, these things have a decent amount of bass with music and reproduce highs well. For home cinema, however, you should set the volume a little higher if you don't have a center or woofer and want to tune in or feel vibrations. The processing is very good, I did not find any flaws. Nothing can be said about the packaging either, a box in a box with styrofoam and a protective fabric cover, two pairs of cotton gloves and 8 silicone feet are also included. It was delivered exactly according to the schedule given by amazon. I don't think you can get better for the price if you want 3-way speakers. However, you should definitely pay attention to the dimensions of the boxes, they are really big and bulky.

As previously described, the speakers are packed really well. A lot has already been written about processing. Externally, the housings impress with clean workmanship and a tasteful design. Anyone who, like me, grew up with hi-fi systems in the 70s and 80s will confirm that the so-called retro design was a success. Looking inside the box, you will be surprised at how well constructed it is. In this case, "outside hui, inside ugh" is by no means correct. The stable MDF construction, the clean screwing of the chassis and the crossover make a reasonable and practical impression. The components of the crossover are by no means cheap either, but rather a good average and appear to be well tuned at first listening impression. In order to objectively assess loudspeakers acoustically, a measurement laboratory would have to be called in, but in the end that doesn't say much about the subjective listening experience. The acoustics in your own living room, the placement of the loudspeakers and of course the entire sound chain all have a very strong influence. In my case, the boxes are powered by a Harman Kardon system or a Luxman LV110 with a dual turntable. My personal impression is that the manufacturers have put a lot of effort into it. I find the sound to be very balanced and rich in detail (Macy Grey, Doors, James Brown, various blues recordings). These pieces sound very good on CD. When I listen to vinyl, I miss a tiny bit of treble. However, I would like to point out that this may be due to my hearing or the TA system of the turntable. A higher quality pickup should fix the problem. I'm completely satisfied and can recommend these speakers to anyone who doesn't want to/can't spend an insane amount of money and still doesn't want to forgo a nice listening experience. However, if you like sound pressure and window-destroying bass, you should look for something else. This is about hi-fi sound with good resolution and moderate volumes. These boxes from NUMAN easily do that.

Wow! Vielen Dank an Numan!

Wow! As soon as I unpacked it, I was impressed by the high-quality workmanship. The protective grille looks even better than in the photos. Very authentic. And then the sound! Now I can hear nuances that I didn't hear with my previous speakers. It also resonates more with emotions, you can feel more feeling in the voices. It's a whole different way of listening to music now. I am very happy about the two pieces of jewellery. Many thanks to Numan!

Hello, this is my first review here and I'm writing it because I feel this product needs support! The NUMAN Retrospective are my first floorstanding speakers, although I had previously listened to others. The prices were in the range of €300 to €500 per box. I was undecided and rummaged around the internet looking for floor-standing speakers with a wood look. I finally came across these great speakers, which visually convinced me immediately. At a price of less than €300, you can even get the pair of boxes here! I figured I couldn't go wrong for the price and if in doubt I'd just send it back. However, this is not the case after 10 months! The speakers are great! I play the piano myself, I'm not a sound fanatic, but I imagine that I can hear differences in the tonal gradation. Clear highs and rich bass were important to me. It should be noted that the sound quality also largely depends on the amplifier used. With my first amplifier (DENON) I had to search for a while until I found the optimal tuning for me. With my second (YAMAHA) the first setting was almost perfect. The speakers are very variable in their sound and, compared to the competition I had heard before, I was almost completely convinced that these speakers would not only be with me for 14 days. The upper frequencies in particular are very clear and precise. I give a small minus point for the lower frequency range, which is not bass-heavy enough for me. For this reason, there are subwoofers that counteract this well. I would like to use the speakers in a 5.1 home cinema system, which also creates a shortcoming for me. Unfortunately, there are no suitable subwoofers, rear and center speakers for the Retrospective floorstanding speakers. I think that's a pity and I hope that this fact will still be taken care of, because the price-performance ratio of this NUMAN series is unsurpassed for me! You get great looks and good sound at a sensational price. I would unreservedly recommend this item!

I spent a long time looking for my speakers when I bought them because my budget was limited and I expected a lot from the sound. At some point I was grateful for the NUMAN Retrospective floorstanding loudspeakers, the tests sounded convincing - there too there was talk of a good price/performance ratio. The chic retro design was also highlighted. And I have to say that I was not disappointed. Both visually and sonically. In general, I would describe the sound as warm, full and balanced. In view of the price, 100 percent differentiation in the edge frequencies would not be expected either. Nevertheless, with the appropriate music there is really something to listen to in terms of details and spatiality. For rock, alternative and similar, I turned the bass up a bit on the amplifier (approx. from 12 to 1 o'clock), but when friends played something electronic for parties, the setting was too much. To that end, there is then a little need for individual adjustment, but everything within the scope of what is easy to do. Vocals stand out clearly on most of the recordings. Red Hot Chili Peppers, Queen or Pink Floyd on vinyl, Arctic Monkeys, Foo Fighters, John Butler Trio, but also the soundtrack to the film Schindler's List or similar are really well received. I also liked the fact that the product came from a relatively small German manufacturer. The only drawback for me is that the last nuances become blurred when there is a great deal of complexity, but we're talking about a pair of floorstanding loudspeakers for around 320 euros, that's why.. So who, like me, actually gets something out of relatively little money If you want to buy a lot of sound, you've definitely come to the right place.

BESSEREN PRODUKTIONSKONTROLLEN!

The end result, after fine-tuning the amplifier, is great and absolutely great for the money. Although the trebles are a bit unbalanced in the basic amplifier setting because they are too low and dull when the treble/treble is in the middle on my Pioneer amplifier, this can fortunately be corrected with a reasonable amplifier by adjusting the treble/treble level on the amplifier turn it up higher and tune it to your personal listening pleasure, then turn up the bass a bit on the amplifier and you then have a very good, balanced, clear, distinct sound and sound and very powerful and powerful bass, perfect for the price! The Numans are the best pair of speakers I've had so far (a total of 4, 26-year-old pairs of Magnat and Pioneer speakers, because the Magnat unfortunately have now breathed their life out, the Numan are also better than my Jamo S 626 (one month old ), which are also good-very good, but I didn't get them tuned as well as the Numans). I can't imagine finding better speakers for the money and a little more, thank you Numan for this great, clear, distinct and powerful sound, sound and bass and this awesome, noble-looking, retro-modern design in very good workmanship. By the way, Numan is a German manufacturer from Berlin, so I also do something for the German economy! The continuous load capacity of the 3-way Numans is 120 watts, peak load capacity up to 200 W, that's enough thickness to theoretically (and practically) transform the lower floor of our 180 m² house into a disco. ;) As I said, the slight imbalance in the highs can be easily corrected with a decent amplifier (in my case, a 26-year-old Pioneer stereo amplifier or a 5.1 surround amplifier from Denon (22 years)), then you also have the balanced and perfect sound The sound you want for relatively little money, maybe Numan should work on that a bit in the future so that you don't have to correct as much. Otherwise you get a great design and a very nice, high-quality feel, look and workmanship for your money on top of the top sound. Full purchase recommendation and 5 stars from me, that's rare in my Amazon reviews, because I'm very critical! Hope they last 25 years! ;) Addendum July 2016: but not 5 stars Since I liked the Numans better than the Jamo S 626, I sent them back because I was still able and decided to buy another pair of the Numan Retrospective 1977 instead. The second pair of Numan boxes is here now, and unfortunately I have to deduct a star overall, due to the significantly poorer processing compared to the first pair of boxes, I am already disappointed with the processing. In a test on the internet, I had read about processing weaknesses in detail, which I could not confirm with the first pair of boxes, they were perfectly processed and deserved the full 5 stars for the processing. Now with the second pair of boxes there were 7 glue dots or glue spots on the two boxes distributed on the side housing parts and on top of the boxes. At first I wanted to pack them up straight away and send them back, then my wife persuaded me to piddle around on them and moisten the enclosed gloves with soapy water and scrub them carefully. The stains aren't completely gone, but you can hardly see them unless you take a closer look, I'd rather not go with more aggressive things. In addition, the foiling on the back of a corner of the box has come off a bit or was not properly glued. But keep it now anyway, because the design and sound convince me for the money and I've gotten a little tired of sending it back lately. From the point of view of workmanship, the second pair of boxes only gets 2 stars from me and the first, as I said, 5, so overall I'm deducting one star in my overall rating, too bad Numan. PLEASE WORK ON CONSTANT PRODUCT QUALITY, NUMAN OR. BETTER PRODUCTION CONTROLS!

Personally, I'm a big fan of products of any kind where you can tell that someone put some thought into the design and construction. That's why I'm also a big fan of the Numan Retrospective 1977. By chance I came across the Numan brand while browsing for 3-way floorstanding speakers. The design really appealed to me in the pictures and after a little research with only positive criticism, I decided to order the floor-standing speakers in a walnut look. The shipping from Elektronik-Star was really very fast (next day delivery). Even unpacking was a lot of fun. I think it's great when you can see that the designer has let off steam with great attention to detail. The speakers make a very high-quality impression, look just as good as in the photos and also feel good. Now to the really important thing, the sound: I'm not a hi-fi expert and only have Teufel Ultima 40 MKII as a reference. In my opinion, the sound is very neutral, pleasant and does not have too pronounced depths like the Ultima 40. We use it as a music system and "home cinema". After initial skepticism (Numan is actually not a real manufacturer, the brand comes from an e-commerce "brand forge" called Chal-Tec from Berlin), I do not regret the purchase at all. The speaker is a lot of fun and looks beautiful. I'm also thinking about getting the smaller Retrospective satellites and expanding the whole system to a surround system.

When I was looking for floor-standing speakers to replace my old Universum bookshelf speakers, the relatively new NUMAN Retrospective 1977 immediately caught my eye with its eye-catching design. The boxes are perfectly finished, have no sharp edges or other flaws and therefore cut a good figure even when still. There is also a lot to offer in terms of sound. I only use the speakers to play music (metal, rock, etc.), and I still love the rich bass and clear treble. (And that even via my old Kenwood KA-4520). In short, the loudspeakers offer: + Very good sound + Excellent workmanship + Eye-catching design + Several colors to choose from If you don't value big brands and are looking for loudspeakers with an optimal price-performance ratio and a unique design, the NUMAN Retrospective 1977 will hit everyone case the right choice.
